Comeback Medvedev Wins First Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court after spring of the previous year.
Victory also means he has secured 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.
But the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
The opponent rescued four early break points in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
